The Little Things Do Matter

It is so easy to overlook the little things.  But never under-estimate the difference that a warm smile, firm hand-shake, or bear hug make.

“We must not, in trying to think about how we can make a big difference, ignore the small daily differences we can make which, over time, add up to big differences that we often cannot foresee.”            Marian Wright Edelman

When Life Happens

Life is a wonderful thing.  I have been so blessed with my family and wonderful friends.  Going back to school  has been so challenging.  I can’t even tell you how many times I have wanted to quit.  My family has continued to encourage me.  When I listen and watch Reba McEntire’s video “Is There Life Out There” it makes me feel very emotional.   I have tried to balance work, family and school.  I’m sure at times, my family has been neglected, my house is a mess, and I haven’t been as focused on work as I should have been. I continue to trudge on in hopes that I walk across the stage with honors.

The Journey Continues

After I finished EMT school, I thought that I might enter the paramedic program.  Some friends of mine that had went through the program said that it would not be a good idea, since I was planning on getting married.  They said they thought it would be too stressful planning a wedding and going through the program. I decided they were right and I just planned my wedding.  At 22 I was married and my life began.  In the back of my mind I started thinking about nursing again.  But how would I ever get through the math requirements.

Don’t let the gray hair fool you. I am a student.

My journey has been such a long time in the making, in fact, you could almost say for 28 years and still counting.  I will take you back to the beginning.

We all have dreams.  My dream was to find the man of my dreams have a couple of children and go to college to become a nurse.  The summer of my senior year, I did just that, I found the man of my dreams.  After I graduated from a small rural school in Michigan, I started college at Lansing Community College (LCC). Unfortunately, I realized that I probably would not be able to get through the math requirements for nursing, math being my weakest subject.   I decided I wasn’t meant to be a nurse.  I really wanted to work in the medical field so I entered the EMT program and eventually graduated with my Associates Degree and became a board certified EMT.
